This overlap is a roofs weak spot. Overtime, Uplift will consistently separate the roofing material from the roof deck causing leaks, water-damage, rot and mold. In a high-speed wind event these types of roofing materials will be left compromised because they aren't designed to interlock.

Hail can be less devastating but just as destructive. Dents and punctures into the roofing material lead to cracks and exposed roof decks. While no roofing material is immune from hail damage, metal provides the best protection against punctures and leakage.
